A Stay For Lynnette Brent and son– August 8-10th
Cabin 9 Sure Game Resort | Cancer Sucks Cabin Giveaway

Lynette Brent joined us at Sure Game Resort from August 8th to 10th for a much-needed and joy-filled getaway through our Cancer Sucks Cabin Giveaway. Her journey is one of strength, perseverance, and deep gratitude — and we’re honored to share her words below with her permission:

"I am a three-time cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and was cured in 2016. A year later, I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer that had metastasized into my lungs. After having my thyroid removed, we began closely monitoring the cancer that had spread. Every six months, I traveled to MD Anderson in Houston to see a thyroid specialist, and each visit brought the relief of hearing that my cancer was stable.

Then, on September 11, 2024, a routine PET scan showed a new cancer — a tumor in the head of my pancreas. Since then, I have undergone 12 rounds of chemotherapy and 15 rounds of radiation. Through it all, I have learned how important it is to make moments with my friends and family — memories that will last my lifetime, and also for those who love me.

On June 30th, I got the wonderful news that my tumor had resolved — no evidence of cancer.

I am blessed and grateful to have received a gifted cabin for a stay at Sure Game August 8–10. I stayed in Cabin 9 with my dog, and my adult son, Robert, stayed with his dog in Cabin 6. It was great to have some space to sleep but to spend wonderful days together at the resort.
So the weekend with Robert at the resort means so very much. A celebration of life! And we really unplugged — swimming, looking at the stars, sharing some cheese curds and a pizza, sitting on the screened-in porch feeling the breeze and reading a book, spotting deer darting through the woods, walking through the forest with the dogs. I loved it so much, I made a reservation to come back in a few weeks! The opportunity to truly unplug is a blessing. Thank you for having a beautiful place to which to escape!"

Lynette’s time away with her son was a touching reminder of how precious moments together can be — especially after the battles she has fought and overcome. We’re grateful she chose to spend this special time with us and even more delighted that she’ll be returning to enjoy the beauty of the Northwoods again this fall.
