A Stay for the Weinzetl Family
August 15–17

Cabin 9 | Sure Game Resort | Cancer Sucks Cabin Giveaway

Kathi and Joe Weinzetl joined us at Sure Game Resort from August 15th to 17th for a peaceful Northwoods getaway through our Cancer Sucks Cabin Giveaway. Kathi graciously shared her story with us, and we’re honored to share her words below:

"My cancer diagnosis came as a complete shock after a routine mammogram. It was a very aggressive form of breast cancer, and the treatments took a huge toll on my body. I quickly went from active to barely able to go from a recliner to the bathroom or bedroom. When all the treatments were finished, my blood did not recover, and I had to have a bone marrow biopsy because leukemia was now a possibility. Thankfully, everything came out ok. Recovery has been very slow and laden with setbacks. In spite of that, I am so blessed that there is no further evidence of cancer.

I struggle with survivor’s guilt. My daughter’s best friend battled this same cancer, passing away just 5 days after Christmas last year. She left behind six little girls, ages 4–17, and a grieving husband. It feels so wrong that I had a good outcome while her sweet little ones desperately need their mama. I often cry wishing I could trade places with her. At the same time, I am so grateful for my doctors, my sweet family, and dear friends who helped me through these hard times.

I am so excited for this opportunity to get away to a peaceful place by a lake. Both my husband and I looked forward to our stay at Sure Game Resort. Thank you for making this a possibility!"

Her Reflections After Their Stay:

"Your resort is a lovely place! The cabins are so cute! If my arm was healed enough, I would have loved to kayak and paddle board (my favorite fun thing to do!). We tried the kayak, but I could feel the tension in my repair and had to give it up. I hope to come back sometime when I can cast a fishing line, kayak, and paddleboard. (On top of everything else, my ligament totally detached from the bone and the tendon tore — it required major reconstruction!)

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting with your mom, your hubby, and the locals who came for a drink!

I agree, God has a plan for you! I think you are carrying out his plan by trying to help people who are in a rough spot in life.

God bless you! Thank you again for the opportunity to enjoy your little piece of heaven!"
